American Kestrel Photographed at Downsview Airport Park
November 11th, 2007 by Rob McKay
Went birding at the Downsview Airport park today, it was my first time visiting the area. I was looking for owls as I’ve heard stories of them wintering at Downsview Airport park. Might be still a bit early for the owls, as I didn’t see any, but I did get up close and personal with an American Kestrel. In all I took about 30 photos of the kestrel and am very happy with the results. I have had no luck taking pictures of these birds, they always seem to be way off in the distance and tend to keep it that way as they are very skittish. This was the largest kestrel I have even seen, and was working the fence line looking for mice.
Totally overcast today, crappy condition for birding to say the least!
