Thickson’s Woods & a Great Owl
November 25th, 2007 by Rob McKay
Met up with Ann, Frank, Leslie & Mike today for some birding in Thickson’s Woods, Whitby. We hiked in and around Thickson’s Woods and explored the meadow in search of, well, birds! We did find a few including black capped chickadees, a few nuthatch’s, a red tailed hawk soaring over the meadow.
But the catch of the day was the Great Horned Owl that Leslie spotted high up in a tree (nice one Leslie!) We all gathered around, all grinning from ear to ear, and a few of us snapping photos.
Gorgeous day, sun shinning, perfect hiking temperatures and great company made this trip a memorable one.

On the way back to Toronto, we all stopped by Cranberry Marsh. The north entrance off of Halls road was blocked off by about 15 turkeys!

Nice shot of the Great Horned. I think he gave me a better look last week than he gave you… http://juliansbirdwatchingphotos.fotopic.net/p46764275.html
Looked for the Barred at Thickson’s and Cranberry as well with no luck. Off to Tommy Thompson Park. Did you see the great shot of the Barred posted by Iain Fleming on the Toronto and Southern Ontario Index?
Nice photos Joe,
I did see Iain’s Barred owl, awesome shot! Tell him to start posting over here too
